How to compost for excellent soil

  1. What can I compost?
    • Fruit & vegetable scraps
    • Eggshells
    • Coffee grounds (plus the filter!)
    • Newspaper, non-gloss cardboard, paper towels
    • Leaves (brown = carbon, green = nitrogen)
    • Grass, plant and flower clippings
  2. What can’t I compost?
    • Meat
    • Dairy products
    • Processed foods
    • Plastic
    • Man-made substances
    • Metals
  3. Step 1: Combine green (wet) and brown (dry) materials
  4. Step 2: Sprinkle the pile with water regularly (not too much!)
  5. Step 3: Stir up the pile (this gives it oxygen)
  6. Step 4: It’s ready when the pile looks brown and crumbly, and no longer gives off heat
  7. Step 5: Feed your compost to the garden and watch everything flourish
